This is an original vintage dancehall classic:

A clash of three jamaican soundsystems in the year 1988: Killamanjaro vs. Super Saint & Black Scorpio.

Jeremy Lee was the selector with performances by Ninja Man, Shabba Ranks, Papa San, Sanchez, Little John, Hopeton James, Flourgan, Red Dragon and Don Angelo.
It´s a classic tape, so the sound is not as we know it from recent productions.

Tony Matterhorn is known as the #1 dancehall selector in the world, he won several “World Clashes” and worked with every big name in the dancehall & reggae scene.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Tony Matterhorn was drawn to the sound system and selector (or DJing) business in high school, and soon after made a name for himself as part of the duo King Addis and his ability to deliver an energetic and exciting live show.
Performing in clubs all over North America, Matterhorn’s style of hardcore dancehall began winning him accolades, including a victory at the dancehall “World Cup” in 2000. He finally broke through to mainstream American audiences in the summer of 2006 with his song “Dutty Wine,” which was heavily played on R & B and rap stations around the country.

Nikki Sudden travelled many kilometers to record his seventh solo album.
One song was written in Toulouse, one in Berlin with Hugo Race, three in Czech with the Golden Angels and two in New York. Finally, in Leamington Spa, he recorded five songs with Carl Eugene Picot and Mark Williams from the Jacobites, to end this way his long journey. No matter how strong fantasy can be, it is not enough.
It just needs something from the circumstances and experiences that Nikki sings about on “The Devil Took Me Down To Georgia” to complete it.
“Seven Lives Later” is a truly a live album, because his creator sharpens his broken voice with endless kilometers and journeys with no cause, where the only that exists is lost smiles, laughter and unfulfilled desires. Try to join him if you dare…

Ernst Busch was called “the singing heart of the labor movement”.
He was, along with Helene Weigel, one of the best-known singer/actors who popularized Brecht’s political plays in the early 30s. His powerful, “metallic” voice was a perfect instrument for outdoor rallies and large performance halls in a time when amplification was generally unavailable. Busch spent the last years of the war in a Nazi prison and, following his release, resumed his singing and acting career in East Germany.

The songs on this CD are a fair representation of his repertory: Original recordings (all lyrics in German) from the early German labor movement, the failed revolution in 1919, and the Spanish Civil War. Included are two of Eisler’s most striking “Kampflieder” from the final crisis years of the Weimar Republic: “Der heimliche Aufmarsch” and “Der rote Wedding” – both are agitprop choruses written to emphasized texts by the communist poet Erich Weinert.

Townes Van Zandt’s music doesn’t jump up and down, wear fancy clothes, or beat around the bush. Whether he was singing a quiet, introspective country-folk song or a driving, hungry blues, Van Zandt’s lyrics and melodies were filled with the kind of haunting truth and beauty that you knew instinctively. His music came straight from his soul by way of a kind heart, an honest mind, and a keen ear for the gentle blend of words and melody. He could bring you down to a place so sad that you felt like you were scraping bottom, but just as quickly he could lift your spirits and make you smile at the sparkle of a summer morning or a loved one’s eyes — or raise a chuckle with a quick and funny talking blues. The magic of his songs is that they never leave you alone.

This album is a wonderful recording from Townes Van Zandt´s gig at the Berlin Independence Days, way back in October 1990. Thanks to Hellmut, who was a part of the enthusiastic audience on this shiny evening, for this recording.
